Rack card printing is an effective and impactful marketing tool for businesses of all sizes. A rack card design can work to educate both current and potential customers about your products and services as well as describe who you are as a company. The rack card size also allows you to provide detailed information about products. The key to successful custom rack cards is an easy to understand design and relevant text and graphics on your rack card.

Rack Card Design Tips

Be sure and use bright, happy colors that get attention and also match your brand. High-resolution images that showcase your services or product line will tell your story to potential customers. In general, a standard rack card size is 4” by 9”. This card size provides a good amount of space that lets you include all of the information you desire. However, make sure the design of the card is not so busy that it becomes difficult for the public to fully understand the message you are trying to share with them.

The rack card design should include the most important information at the top of the card. Since standard rack card holders are taller in the back, the rack cards will stay upright (while also being shorter on the side and front). It is vital to include information such as the company name and logo where the card will be visible to the public. Besides your company name or contact info, you can include a call to action (such as a discount code) in the visible area. The information should let customers know who you are, the services you offer and how to contact your business.  Once customers are compelled to pick up one of your custom rack cards, use the part of the card that hasn’t been viewed to showcase any promotions or specific services you are offering to the public.

What Should be Included on a Rack Card?

Now that the rack card design has caught the attention of consumers, you need to showcase what makes your business so special. This does not mean you need to design a text-heavy card full of paragraphs describing the business. The text should simply share the benefits customers can expect when they visit your business.

The next step in the rack card process is focusing on the call to action. What do you want the readers of the rack card to do once they view your message? If the public is interested in the products and services you are offering, you need to provide a method to follow-up with you. The call to action should let consumers know what they need to do in order to take advantage of your latest promotion or special or how to participate in one of your programs or ventures.

Pick a noticeable place on the card to give additional information such as your website URL or phone number. A QR code lets rack card readers use their phones to scan for more information while they are looking at your card. Even though smartphones are owned by most of the public, don’t assume that everyone examining the rack card has a phone. Be sure and include written information instead of simply counting on the QR code to deliver your message. If you have a new store location, share more information than the new address. Tell the public what is new and exciting about the latest store location.

Additional information to consider including on your rack card:

  • Business hours for each day of the week
  • Business email address
  • Directions (such as a map) to your store
  • Social media handles
